Big-hearted search dog remembered - Firefighters Honor Harry 2/30/05 San Gabriel Valley Tribune
"God almighty must have had a fun day the day he invented the Labrador, Golden Retriever, and any other dog because they are truly entertaining," Montebello Fire Chief Jim Cox said. "There has got to be a touch of God on their backs."

Recruited from Anaheim Fire to become Assistant Chief for the California State Governor's Office of Emergency Services (OES), Jim was responsible for Fire and Rescue, and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) for Region 1, which includes the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo.
In his position with OES, Chief Cox worked local, state, national and international disasters, and gave valuable support to anti-terrorism efforts at the local, state and national levels. During the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, and again at the 1996 Republican National Convention in San Diego, Chief Cox acted as the Agency representative for OES.
The next phase of the Chief's career took him to the City of Montebello where he served as Fire Chief from 1998 - 2006.
Special areas of expertise include: firefighting, disaster management, and anti-terrorism tactics. Cox co-authored the national curriculum for Fire Service operations, command-level strategy, and tactics for anti-terrorism response.
